What if all the conspiracy theories about aliens are true? What if there really are secret government facilities and men in black, and powerful extraterrestrial artifacts being held in secret on Earth? What if those ominous government agencies forgot to pay their storage bill?
That’s the premise for this new sci-fi comedy miniseries from indie publisher Alterna Comics, written by Wes Locher with art by Eduardo Jimenez. In this collected edition of all 4 issues, we follow odd couple Agents Hatch and Gibson, who are trying to recover an alien artifact of unimaginable worth, lost in the eponymous storage unit sold at auction to a couple of rednecks.
Can they figure out what’s really going on in time to prevent an invasion of TRULY TERRIFYING aliens? Well, maybe.
Unit 44 is a fun sci-fi comedy, big on the goofy gags and conspiracy theory silliness, but not without some unexpected twists. The story flows smoothly as a graphic novel, and the pacing is great. While I found myself wishing for a few less jokes in the middle of the drama, it’s a great contribution to the genre, and I think we can expect a lot more great comedy from Locher in the future.
You can get Unit 44 online from any of Alterna’s local or online retailers.
