What if all the conspiracy theories about aliens are true? What if there really are secret government facilities and men in black, and powerful extraterrestrial artifacts being held in secret on Earth? What if those ominous government agencies forgot to pay their storage bill?
That’s the premise for this new sci-fi comedy miniseries from indie publisher Alterna Comics, written by Wes Locher with art by Eduardo Jimenez. We’re introduced to Agents Hatch and Gibson, an odd couple of partners, who, while sent on a routine errand, find themselves chasing through a small Nevada town after the couple of guys who just bought half of America’s secrets (in the form of the eponymous “Unit 44”) for $350.
This book is a lot of fun, and while it may still lack a little polish, it shows a ton of potential. Hatch and Gibson play great off of each other, with a buddy-cop vibe, and (despite appearances) both of them are actually pretty competent guys. So why does it take these two agents more than one issue to get their stuff back from a couple of rednecks? Well… you’ll have to read to find out! I’m betting it will be worth the ride.
You can get Unit 44 online from any of Alterna’s local or online retailers.
