Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow-White-and-The-Huntsman-High-ResThe evil Queen Ravenna (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron) will rule forever if she can take the life of Snow White (Kristen Stewart), so she dispatches the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to track her down. But the wicked ruler never imagined that the Huntsman would train the girl to become a brave warrior, skilled in the art of war.

Another quiet Monday night around here so I decided to put in one of the two copies of this that I must have recently bought. Yes, two. Yes, I do this too often. Yes, the spare copy is in the giveaway box now!  Anyway…I bought it twice so I must have thought it was going to be a good movie, right? Well, I’m assuming so.

Luckily for me, I was right. This is a good film...

Captain America: Civil War

Captain-America-Civil-War-banner-101

To put my review in context about this movie I have to explain a few things about my history with Marvel.  I used to be a Marvel Zombie, I loved all they did (with a strong focus on the X-Men side of things) but I was getting a bit burned out around when the first Civil War crossover was happening.  When I read some of Civil War, I just quit Marvel.  It was the last straw in that I just wasn’t enjoying the direction their stories were going in and there were just too many crossover events to feel like anything mattered continuity wise because it would all be shaken up by the next big event.

So while I’ve enjoyed the Captain America movies so far, I honestly haven’t enjoyed any Marvel movie where they try to cram too much continuity and characters and appearances to the point you don’...

Batman Punches Superman: Dawn of Injustice

I’ve now seen Deadpool three times in the theatre: Once at the normal cinema I go to, once in IMAX (my first IMAX movie!) and once with a friend that came to visit. I’m also looking forward to Captain America: Civil War. I bring these up because I do not have the mixed feelings for the vast majority of Marvel films that I do for Batman vs. Superman. And it can’t be just that I’m a Marvel fanboy — I love Batman and the Bat-family more than I do any one particular Marvel hero, even RDJ’s Tony Stark.

But if I’m honest, I’ve never been a Superman fan to begin with. The Reeves films were variable in quality, with the first one being the only truly good one (minus the time travel sequence), and Superman Returns actually put me to sleep despite the absolute perfection of casting Kevin Spacey as...

From the Vault: The Finest Redemption Story in Superhero Movies

My first attempt at watching Deadpool did not go so well. It had nothing to do with the movie; that, without going into too much detail too early, was really quite good. No, it was the case of grinding stomach cramps that started about halfway through the film, followed by my car not starting after the movie, capped off with nearly a week of gastroenteritis that put a damper on the evening. So I did all of you, my faithful readers, a favour and went to see it again. In IMAX. I swear, the things I do for you lot…
I’ve been aware of Deadpool for a very long time...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

There’s a reason Batman comes first in the title of this movie, and it’s not just because Batman is undoubtedly cooler. This is very much a Batman movie with a heaping helping of Superman. Now I’ll keep this review free of major spoilers, but of course if you are keen to go into this one totally clean, maybe jump out now.

Okay, now that they’ve gone, I’ll get on with it. After being treated to what I can only refer to as a Snyderesque opening credits sequence showing the Batman origin story in hyper-slow-mo, We are immediately reminded of the climactic events of Man of Steel. This time we see them from the perspective of Bruce Wayne, who races through Metropolis to save a building full of employees. Anyone who’s seen the footage released so far knows how this turns out...
