Hero Cats: Midnight Over Stellar City Vol 2 #1

The claws of justice are BACK! Midnight is forced to deal with the fallout of a prison break at the Taurus County Jail. Can Midnight corral the criminals so Stellar City can sleep safe and sound? With the help of fellow Hero Cat, Cassiopeia, they might just have a chance!

Hey look at that, he’s back! In black! (Sorry, that was just too good to pass up). In all seriousness though, while I can’t say I have a favorite Hero Cat, Midnight is certainly awesome. He’s so awesome that we now have the first issue of Hero Cats: Midnight Over Stellar City returning for a second volume.

When a prison break occurs involving above average villains, it’s up to Midnight to track them down...

Hero Cats of Skyworld #16

A new beginning! Bandit is transported to the Crow King’s realm and it’s a land of magic, dark spirits, and fairies. Featuring new Hero Cats – Lancelot, Sapphire, Newton, and Madalyn. This is a perfect starting point for new readers.

Whoa. Whoa whoa. I feel like I’ve gone through some sort of comic wormhole or something. It’s been what, at least a half dozen issues of filler and we’re back to the ongoing story. Sort of? Not at all as we’d expect though, as issue sixteen is now the Hero Cats of Skyworld, so we’re totally not in Kansas Stellar City anymore.

The one link we do get to the original Hero Cats is the opener of Bandit and his robot companion landing in a strange new world...

Hero Cats #15

Rocket’s origin is revealed! Debuting the art of Hero Cats writer and creator Kyle Puttkammer.

Now this is a pretty special issue to return to after nearly missing this one. Not only do we get origin stories for two of our heroes, but debut art from the creator? I would have already enjoyed issue fifteen of Hero Cats, but that makes it all the more exciting.

Before becoming the strong member he is, Rocco started out living on the sea with his father. Rocket however, was the very first cat to be born in space, before sadly having to escape to Earth because of pirates. By chance meeting, these two eventually meet and become both friends and teammates in the Hero Cats team...

Hero Cats #13+14

The two most popular Hero Cats, Midnight & Rocket, take center stage as we return to Stellar City.

Well then, oops. It looks like this is one of those times when being a bit behind on a book was time sensitive. This didn’t make reading one of these any less enjoyable, but reading it closer to release would have been good. Even so, I still enjoyed both issue thirteen and fourteen of Hero Cats regardless of holiday targeting.

So, the thirteenth issue appears to have been a non-canon Halloween special for our cats. It was a scary post-apocalyptic setting, where Ace was the very last cat on Earth. It featured the rest of the team as everything from zombies to alien robots as well for a fun one off story...
