Walk the Plank!

In Walk the Plank!, players represent the worst pirates in a captain’s crew. The captain has rounded you all up because you’re all lazy and stupid and simply not worth the rum and loot you get paid. That said, the captain has decided he’s willing to keep two of you in his crew. To prove you’re worthy, you will fight amongst yourselves, trying to shove other players’ pirates off the end of the plank while keeping yours alive!

Walk the Plank! is a fun little game from Mayday Games, it is the first part of the “Casual Trilogy”  featuring the dumbest pirates known to man. In the game, you take control of three pirates who are fighting with other pirates to be the last two scallywags standing.  Each player has three meeple and a deck of action cards...

Snow Tails

From Renegade Game Studios: Snow Tails is set in the snowy world of the Arctic Circle, where brave sledders compete in a test of skill and endurance. Action is fast and furious and not all sleds may make it to the finish. Huskies only have one setting and that is full speed! Hang on to your furs, the reins, your sled and anything else you can get hold of.

The game contains modular track pieces which can be fitted together to form different courses. Players have their own Dog Decks which they draw from and play onto their sled mat. Movement is rarely in a straight line as the sled may drift left or right. Losing control or speeding into a corner results in Dent cards being acquired which will limit a player’s hand size.

The game features a fun and original movement mechanism.

The Raven’s Call (5th Edition)

I have a confession to make. When it comes to high fantasy based RPGs I have tended to lean towards Pathfinder. This is not a specific endorsement of the system, nor a condemnation of other systems, it’s just what the players I play with play. My point in this is that my experience with the 5th Edition of one of those larger systems is limited.

So it is with that grain of salt I picked up the The Raven’s Call from Kobold Press (http://www.koboldpress.com). Raven’s Call was actually first released for the Pathfinder system in 2013, and has just been re-released in a 5th Edition version. It takes place in the Midgard campaign setting that is available for multiple systems.

The story is as old as time...

Animethon 22

I have a confession to make.  Actually I’ve made it before: I’m not really an anime guy.

That being said, anime conventions are an interesting sort of event.  They seem to have, overall, a more relaxed atmosphere.  If there’s an outside space, it’s full of cosplayers quite literally dancing and having a good time, unlike some conventions, where you dare not leave the venue for fear of not being able to get back in.

In the olden days, Animethon used to start mid-day on a Friday but, as it grew and people started showing up earlier and earlier, they started programming earlier.  As a result, I missed most of the first day due to the real world, but I was able to get there in time for the big Flow concert.

For those who are like me and like pictures, sorry, you’re out of luck...

Gen Con 2015

I have a confession to make. As nerdy as I am, I never thought I’d go to an event like GenCon.

I honestly don’t exactly know what to write, it was an enormous event, and no matter how much I wrote I will have missed more then I touch on. That actually was a bit of a theme for my weekend. Through a variety of circumstances I think I ended up missing more games than I actually played.

As I may have mentioned this was my first GenCon, and GenCon is kinda big. So I spent most of my first day trying to find my way around. I was scheduled to compete in the Munchkin tournament, but 45 minutes of looking for the tables later I had missed it...
