Alterna AnniverSERIES: Lilith Dark

Lilith Dark’ is an all-ages dark fantasy adventure comic featuring Lilith Dark, a little girl with a wild imagination and a tree full of beasties in her backyard.

‘Lilith Dark’ is created, written & illustrated by award winning comic & fantasy artist CDowd. Follow Lilith’s adventures online at LilithDark.com

This a simple and fun little comic aimed more at kids as the description above says.  Also just like the description says it’s all about a little girl and her adventures real and imagined.

Now this book original came out in apparently 2012 so the art is at least 4 years old.  Looking at the creator’s website I can clearly see that his art has improved so I feel it’s a tad bit of a disservice to reprint his older work...

Six Million Dollar Man: Fall of Man #1

A test flight ended in disaster, leaving Colonel Steve Austin shattered and on the verge of death. Scientists reconstructed him using bionic parts, making him better…stronger…faster. Since that day, he has been a secret agent for the Office of Secret Intelligence and has loyally served his country as The Six Million Dollar Man!

First off, all I remember of the Six Million Dollar Man is seeing it in reruns in syndication as a kid.  I thought it cool and would watch it but I’ve never had the urge to seek it out and rewatch it now.  So from that standpoint I’m sort of torn about the different tones this book seems to take.

First it does catch that more hokey 70s feel of a cybernetic man going on secret missions...

The Dark #1

Steve Rankin is a writer researching regional myths for a book. He meets up with Fouke, Arkansas local, Karl Cooper to find out more about the local legend revolving around a Sasquatch. Steve discovers that some things are better lost to the unknown.

Spoiler Warning because this is horror story with a twist at the end.

I like how the creator plays and blends several myths and legends into a fun mix of horror and mystery. The main thrust of the story at first seems to be about a Sasquatch/Bigfoot. I think that is a good legend to open with so well openly because Bigfoot has been covered so recently in popular media...

Alterna AnniverSERIES: Character Guide

The Alterna AnniverSERIES celebrates 10 years of quality creator-owned comics. A perfect starting point for some of our most popular titles!

My guess on what this was supposed to be is a play on those Character guides for various comics, shows, and games where you get to read over about your favorite characters and even learn more about them and the world your so invested in. Typically, though those guides are set to one world or setting. This is more like a catalog and Alterna has a wide range of different books with radically different tones, styles and feels to them. They’re kind of like Image where there isn’t a house style vs more homogeneous companies like DC or Zenescope where you know roughly what to expect from their line of books.

So while it’s interesting in places (like on...
