Red Sonja: The Long Walk To Oblivion

The people of Meru are in terrible danger from an ancient evil, and there is only one person who can save them — the Hyrkanian warrior woman, Red Sonja! A lone Meruvian is sent to find Sonja and bring her back east — a treacherous trip that ends in a trap laid by Sonja’s old enemy, the evil wizard Kulan Gath in Red Sonja #0! It’s the adventure set before the new hit series, in this extra-sized one-shot!

This book is a bit odd, because it’s supposed to be the prelude to Issue 0 of the new Red Sonja ongoing.

As you can see below, the page to the left is the end of Long Journey and the one on the right is the end of issue #0.  I call this book odd because Issue 0 came out in December and this book is coming out in May...

Big Moose

Art: Cory Smith, Thomas Pitilli and Ryan Jampole
Colors: Matt Herms, Glenn Whitmore and Kelly Fitzpatrick
Letters: Jack Morelli
Publisher: Archie Comics

Big Moose Mason is the star of this Archie Comics one shot. Three stories surround Riverdale’s star footballer; Moose vs The Vending Machine, Have It All and The Big Difference. The first story is about Moose and his stomach; he is hungry and all he wants is a snack. Midge, his girlfriend, will not give him a dollar because of dinner plans they have. Moose runs into Jughead who makes him an offer that he can’t refuse. In the second story, it is a week in the life of Moose; his school work, his home life, his girlfriend, and football...

The Black Hood: Season 2 #4

The Black Hood: Season 2 is nearly over. It’s Black Hood vs Black Hood in Issue #4 as the original Black Hood (Kip Burling) confronts the current Black Hood (Greg Hettinger) saying, “Killing me wasn’t enough, officer? You had to steal my identity too?”

The first two-thirds of the story is the formulaic, testosterone fueled fight that happens whenever two heroes meet for the first time, followed by how Burling survived being shot in the face by Hettinger once they inevitably beat each other to a stalemate. The last third of the story has The Nobody kidnapping Hettinger’s ex girlfriend, before coming to an explosive finish.

As usual, the issue is capped off with a classic 1940’s Black Hood story.  I’m really torn about these backup stories...

Finally making it through the crowd to Artist’s Alley, Katie suddenly starts to randomly transform. She tries to calm down in the solitude of the restroom, only to find herself among more TSDs. The blades are getting harder to control, but she manages to take charge for the moment...

Dollface #4

The tables have turned now on Dollface and the gang, as Zombie Tramp tries to take each one of them out. Are Lila and Ivan ready to deal with such a powerful witch this early in the game?

As great as the concept may be, not every crossover ends up actually being a good idea. Fortunately, this is one that combines two of best titles, and characters out there. Well, that may just be my opinion, but most will agree Dollface and its fourth issue is excellent.

With the Necronomicon in her hands, Zombie Tramp is scarier than usual as team Dollface tries to take her on. With her magic and a graveyard of bodies at her disposal, Janey seems unstoppable. Using almost every trick they can, Lila and Ivan manage to combine tactics to finally come out the victors.

It’s violent, it’s vibrant, it’s al...
