Vampblade Season 2 #5

After team Vampblade’s first mission goes decidedly not to plan, it’s back to basics. Katie must learn to control her new relationship with the blades… while also keeping the comic shop afloat in today’s tricky market!

You suddenly find yourself transported to what appears to be another planet or possibly even another dimension. Wait, this isn’t the beginning of an RPG campaign, is it? This would certainly make for a crazy setting to have one though. However, this is actually Vampblade issue five of its second season and not a D&D night.

We interrupt this this regularly broadcast from Earth comic for this jump to…somewhere? At least 90% of the time anyways, where we see Katie in “Blade World”, potentially where the sentient being of the Blades is from...

Tomboy #12

After losing everything she wanted to protect, Addison decides the fate of both her own future and that of the city, as Iris steps up to stop her. The shocking series conclusion.

This moment has been a long time coming and my anticipation for it was about as high as it gets. When it comes to this series, a number of choice words to describe it immediately come to mind. Intense. Unexpected. Amazing. I could probably go on but you probably get the point and hopefully even know for yourself. If you don’t, with this twelfth and final issue of Tomboy now out, you should absolutely make the effort to do so.

All the players, at least those that are left, have entered the field for the big showdown. I’d have said final showdown, but the writers were smart enough to leave the ending just open en...

The Dark Horse Book of Horror

Mike Mignola, Hellboy, and a roster of great creators and characters explore the dark corners of the horror genre in thirty-five stories of witchcraft, ghosts, and the risen dead.

Originally published in four award-winning anthologies, these stories featured the debut of Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson’s Beasts of Burden series, and standalone stories by Kelley Jones, Kurt Busiek, and many others.

In addition to the comics, Gary Gianni (Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea) illustrates stories by legendary authors such as Robert E. Howard (Conan) and William Hope Hodgson (The House on the Borderland), and Scott Allie interviews experts in the occult fields, including a seance medium and a witch who specializes in love spells.

I absolutely loved whenever the book fair came around during school and...

Calla Cthulhu TPB

Being a teenager isn’t easy, especially after you learn you carry the bloodline of Lovecraft’s Great Old Ones in your veins. Instead of a summer job and checking out colleges, Calla Tafali finds herself battling supernatural monsters, human assassins, and her uncle, the King in Yellow. She must resist his call to embrace her own chaotic heritage and join the family business, as well as prevent the awakening of the terrible deity asleep and dreaming in the corpse city of R’lyehthe Dread Dead One! Prepare yourself for weird action, adventure, and mystery in the Mighty Mythos Manner!

While I’m at least generally aware of the Cthulhu mythos, I am a long shot from being very familiar with it...

Dollface #7

The battle continues as Lila and Ivan take on the giant, gluttonous, witch, who means to crush them. Literally.

The time for any amount of relaxation is gone and we’re back to the reality of slaying witches for this ragtag team. One member may be reeling from the events of the last book, but luckily our heavy hitter is still ready to kick ass. Or at least try to anyways, as the opposing forces in issue seven of Dollface are not going to go down easy, if at all.

If memory serves right in the half dozen issues we’ve gotten so far, I don’t think Lila has ever been this driven. Or pissed off at least. With Ivan taking Emily away from the battlefield, Lila focuses on trying to take out another evil from her past, the gargantuan cannibal Orla...
