The Dark North

Originally crowdfunded in 2015, this illustrated prose/art book fusion features five unique tales ranging from Norse mythology to science fiction. The Dark North showcases artwork by Scandinavia’s leading illustrators and concept artists Peter Bergting, Henrik Pettersson, Joakim Ericsson, Magnus Olsson, and Lukas Thelin, prose by Martin Dunelind, and a foreword by author and filmmaker Clive Barker!

It was interesting to learn from the above summary that this was originally brought to life thanks to crowdfunding. Whether or not that attempt to do so had been successful, which gladly it was, I hope it would have still been brought to the masses. Once you open up The Dark North and see the wonders within, you’ll be thankful that it happened regardless of the crowdfunding success.

The Power of the Dark Crystal #6

Separated from Kensho, Thurma journeys out into the wilds of Thra to find her way home, alone and unaware of the wonders that stand before her and the dangers on her trail.

Can it be that we’re already at the halfway mark of this series? Granted, that’s nowhere as dramatic as saying that it’s the last issue, which lucky for us it is fortunately not. So while it leaves us now with only half the series left, this sixth issue of The Power of the Dark Crystal reminds us we have a great second part to look forward to.

Standing amidst her instinctive destruction by her impressive fire, Thurma wants to move on but is unable to cross the river before her. Out of nowhere on the creature summoned by the mystics, he swoops in and saves her...

Infinite Seven #5

After the tragic events of last issue, Anthony “Smash Brannagan” Zane lies in a coma at the edge of death, while a friend from his past threatens to expose the Shadow Cabinet to the world, putting her in the crosshairs of the Infinite Seven! The status quo has changed, making this the PERFECT jump on point for new readers!

One of the more common ideas that seems to be attached to the life of a secret agent is that of being alone, cutting ties to a “normal” life. That’s hard enough for a grown adult to do, but imagine making that choice as a teenager. Of the many things that Anthony has been up against, this might actually be the toughest. Nothing is ever going to be the same from here on out for our young hero as we see in Infinite Seven issue five.

In the aftermath of the harsh endi...

Hero Cats of Skyworld #18

Bandit and the Hero Cats of Skyworld are in for the fight of their lives as they confront the Crow King and his wretched warriors. It’s time to storm the castle in this all out action packed issue.

If ever there was a time that I could have started off a review sounding like a D&D night, it’d be a book like this. Amusingly enough, it just happened to be another Action Lab book that I did that with recently. But, enough of that mostly irrelevant nonsense, let us now move onto talking about issue eighteen of Hero Cats of Skyworld.

With Bandit working together with this world’s own Hero Cats team, after training for months, they finally proceed with their plan. He and each of the cats in his temporary new team do their part based on the various abilities to set up for the ultimate goal...

Vampblade Season 2 #5

After team Vampblade’s first mission goes decidedly not to plan, it’s back to basics. Katie must learn to control her new relationship with the blades… while also keeping the comic shop afloat in today’s tricky market!

You suddenly find yourself transported to what appears to be another planet or possibly even another dimension. Wait, this isn’t the beginning of an RPG campaign, is it? This would certainly make for a crazy setting to have one though. However, this is actually Vampblade issue five of its second season and not a D&D night.

We interrupt this this regularly broadcast from Earth comic for this jump to…somewhere? At least 90% of the time anyways, where we see Katie in “Blade World”, potentially where the sentient being of the Blades is from...
