Sirens 1

As an
intergalactic force enslaves planets across the galaxy, the legendary team
known only as the Sirens must reunite to save the galaxy-but is that even
possible when the Sirens themselves don’t even remember who they are? And the
rest of the universe only remembers them as…villains?

There’s a thing about nostalgia; it blinds
us. We can be so caught up in reliving the glory days that we abandon our
critical faculties in an  attempt to
return to a half remembered, rose tinted past. Whilst I don’t  like to say its completely the reason for Sirens
#1
not quite popping, its  an
undeniable part of it. Because before buying this issue you should ask
yourself; do you like George Perez as a writer or an artist...

BOOM! – Archaia
As a reviewer I admit to certain fallibilities.
When you can sometimes end up reading 100 or so comics in less than a month and
certainly hundreds a year, your mind tends to shunt out anything that isn’t at
least some way different or unique. Even when you can admit something is
conventionally well written or crafted, you can baulk at reading the same
‘white dude finds himself’ ...

Wild’s End 1

Wild’s End isn’t revolutionary, but that’s one of its strengths.

When a rural English community of the 1930s is the victim of an alien invasion, the residents’ lives are upended by the harsh realities of life-and-death violence. Led by the town’s outsider and retired war veteran, they will have to rally together to uncover the secret of their invaders and ultimately fight back.

Dan Abnett, possibly the most prolific writer in the UK at the moment, has teamed up again with I.N.J. Culbard, his partner on The New Deadwardians. Much like that series, Wild’s End #1 doesn’t break the mold, but it does prove to be a very enjoyable read.

The story itself will be very familiar to you have if read anything by an English author fro...

Cyanide and Happiness: Punching Zoo TPB

Punching Zoo includes a buttload of our favorite comics from the site, 30 brand-new, too-hot-for-the-Internet comics, “The Hot Date” (a choose-your-own-adventure where you decide the story), and a nice forward by Alexis Ohanian, one of the founders of reddit.

At some point or another, you’ve probably read one of the many webcomic strips from Cyanide and Happiness.  It’s almost unavoidable if you spend any considerable amount of time on the internet. Not that you’d want to avoid them, because let’s face it, they are hilarious.  Now with Punching Zoo, you have a whole boatload of them collected in one TPB, along with new ones we’ve never seen!

Cyanide and Happiness is comedy in its rawest and most blatantly honest form, holding absolutely nothing back with every new comic th...

Teen Dog 1

Skateboards, football games, prom…your teenage years have got nothin’ on the raddest dude that’s ever graced a denim vest. Written and illustrated by Jake Lawrence (Time Cowboy), join Teen Dog and his best friend Mariella as they tackle typical teen life with a manic twist. Growing up is an adventure, and you might as well rock it!

Teendog isn’t poochie, but neither is he a purebred.

Being someone who spends a lot of time either reading or writing about comics, I must admit when I first saw Boom! Boxes advertisements for Teen Dog I was a bit wary. He seemed a bit like Poochie, that dog that’s just too cool for school (yet ultimately empty, out of touch and creatively bankrupt) in an episode of the Simpsons. Having now read the first issue I have less to fear.

Teen Dog is a collection ...
