BLOODSHOT WAS THE PERFECT LIVING WEAPON.

A nearly indestructible killing machine powered by billions of nanites that give him superhuman abilities.

Long before he was REBORN, Bloodshot carried out hundreds of brutal black-ops missions for the paramilitary organization Project Rising Spirit.  These are the recently declassified files of those operations–past, present, and future.

Disclaimer – I’ve never really read any of the Valiant books before. Not when they first came out, not when Acclaim took over and not the current reboot. It’s nothing against Valiant, just have never had the time or money to get into more comics (because right now we do have so many great choices in comics nowadays, some good ones are going to get missed)...

Many years from now, Los Angeles has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland and the once unstoppable killing machine known as BLOODSHOT has become THE ANALOG MAN. Hopelessly outdated, Bloodshot’s taken on a new role as the protector of a small town, eking out a subsistence existence with the great love of his life – Magic – and protecting a group of stragglers who’ve weathered the storm. But when a gang of marauders arrives, the settlement’s survival is threatened, and Bloodshot is forced to bring justice to the distorted and disjointed badlands of the Valiant Universe!

While I am always open to exploring new comics, I can’t help but be hesitant jumping into the middle of one. Luckily, this issue was probably about the best place that I could do so in this title...

Bloodshot is on the hunt. Determined to stop the violent reign of terror that plagues Colorado, Bloodshot journeys across the Rocky Mountains to destroy the remaining nanites that have caused mass murderers to spring up across the state. But will the drugs, booze, and insane visions rattling around his head put an end to his journey before it begins?

After the hallucinogenic last issue, Bloodshot Reborn takes a breath for some downtime, dedicating itself to establishing the dynamic between the lead and his accidental companion Magic and their pursuers Agent Hoyt and Festival.

It speaks a lot to Jeff Lemire’s skills that this quiet issue works so well, being more about small character beats than exciting action.

The man once known as the unstoppable killing machine called BLOODSHOT must track down the impostors carrying out mass shootings in his former name. But the hunter becomes the hunted when an upstart FBI investigator and her grizzled partner believe the original Bloodshot himself to be responsible for the murders.

Can Bloodshot elude the agents – and his own inner demons – long enough to take out a nanite-infused gunman?
