The Power of the Dark Crystal #7

After being separated by the Chamberlin who is in pursuit of the shard, Kensho and Thurma reunite under a common goal.

I may have said this in the past, whether it be this series or other related ones, but it bears repeating. Growing up with the Dark Crystal movie and other creations from the masterful mind of Jim Henson, it’s wonderful to still get content stemming from that work. The Power of the Dark Crystal is without a doubt a key example of that and we now move onto the second half of the series.

Jen continues his search for the “crystal thieves”, although he doesn’t feel that their intentions were necessarily of bad intent. I don’t normally point out individual lines, but one part here regarding the fact that Jen now sits upon a Garthim was so powerful...

The Power of the Dark Crystal #6

Separated from Kensho, Thurma journeys out into the wilds of Thra to find her way home, alone and unaware of the wonders that stand before her and the dangers on her trail.

Can it be that we’re already at the halfway mark of this series? Granted, that’s nowhere as dramatic as saying that it’s the last issue, which lucky for us it is fortunately not. So while it leaves us now with only half the series left, this sixth issue of The Power of the Dark Crystal reminds us we have a great second part to look forward to.

The Power of the Dark Crystal #5

While Jen and Kira deal with the chaos the Skeksis have wrought on the castle, Thurma and Kensho are out in the wilds of Thra on the run from the Crystal Guard, unaware that something far more treacherous followed their trail: the Chamberlain.

There are few occasions where I’ve felt the need to start off in atypical fashion and immediately speak of the cover of a book. Had this been the first thing I ever saw from this series, I’d have been pulled in just because of the wonderful outer artwork. Fortunately, this fifth issue of The Power of the Dark Crystal is far from the first thing and hopefully far from the last.

Almost nearing the halfway mark of this welcomed continuation, the story appropriately begins to really pick up...

The Power of the Dark Crystal #4

While Jen and Kira deal with the chaos the Skeksis have wrought on the castle, Thurma and Kensho are out in the wilds of Thra on the run from the Crystal Guard, unaware that something far more treacherous followed their trail: the Chamberlain.

I’d say pretty much everyone has a movie, cartoon or something of the sort from their childhood that they still adore. Of the many for myself, Dark Crystal was one of those I’ll never stop loving. Now four issues in of the dozen for The Power of the Dark Crystal, my love for it only grows.

Alongside Thurma as she tries to find her way home with the shard, Kensho begins to question whether it’s wrong or not. After telling him an inspirational story from her people, he is reassured and soon must act as a decoy from their pursuers...
