Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess #2

The events of issue 1 have left our fearless heroine worse for wear, but Raven is ready to put together a crew and with the help of her old friend Cookie, she’s looking to interview every rogue, cad, and scoundrel that ever sailed the seven seas. But when you put that many pirates in one place, there’s only one possible outcome: FIGHT!

Whether it’s the core series, or one of the off shoots like this one, I’m always up for more Princeless. I was really happy to see that Raven got her own with as much as I enjoyed her character. Going into the second issue, she’s already gotten herself into a scrap and I’m sure there’s plenty more ahead.

Raven recovers from being knocked out in book one and finds herself in the company of the girl responsible. It turns out this nimble young lady by the name Sunshine is half-elf, which explains a lot. The two chat and make up, and with Cookie’s advice on getting revenge, Raven begins the process of gathering a crew. After passing on one sexist pirate after another, Raven only finds a girl named Katie to be first mate, who suggests they gather her “guild” for an all female crew.

The team working on the art for this side series is doing a heck of a job so far. The illustrations throughout the book are so crisp, and the colors are really clean, making for some very nice looking pages. Once again, the action sequences which we had plenty of moved along smoothly from start to finish.

I am really loving this addition to the world of Princeless and we’re only two books into it. One thing I have to mention is how happy I am to see a comic not afraid to include attraction between two girls. It’s refreshing to see, and along with the great story and fantastic artwork, makes this one title well worth buying.
