In this issue, it is Bubbles turn to try and find the Chronogem to get back to present day Townsville. Bubbles has been sent to the time of pirates of the high seas! She has commandeered a ship, has a crew and named them the Panda Pirates. The crew has found a treasure map that locates the Chronogem that Bubbles needs to get back in time. Standing in the way of Bubbles and the Panda Pirates is Pirate Neckbeard and a Kracken. Bubbles needs to get to the Chronogem before Neckbeard buries it again.
It’s Bubbles, so of course this was cute. I mean, only Bubbles can find a panda and have a crew that follows her lead without question. We, as the reader, have to take it on face value that Bubbles remembers the same lesson that Blossom did on how to to find and use a Chronogem. I know, I know, I may be reading a little into to it but I still have to ask. All in all, it has the cuteness and fast paced dialogue as it is in the show.
Haley Mancini and Jake Goldman are right on target with Bubbles. Everything she is and does is fun and cute, this was a sweet and fun story for Bubbles. It has the same wit in the dialogue and with Bubbles’ sunny self, she makes friends with everyone and every creature, even the ones that are suppose to stop her. Mancini and Goldman have created such a cute girlie girl in Bubble that you can’t help but fall in love with her.
Philip Murphy and Leonardo Ito work together on the art and colors in this issue. Just like snap shots from the cartoon, the colors are bright and cheerful. There is a reason why her name is Bubbles, every color chosen are colorful and bright. Even the panels with the storm that shipwrecks her crew, the color is not dark and stormy, because Bubbles is having the time of her life. I think this color scheme should be called The Sweetness. Along with Andworld Productions’ letterer, I thoroughly enjoyed this issue.
I give this issue 4 stars.
