Wizard World Austin 2012 Wrap Up Part 1

I love cons. It’s no real secret. Whenever I’m presented with the opportunity to attend one, I don’t think I’ll ever say, “No, I have to wash my hair that weekend.” Seriously, I love cons. It’s not just the fact that I love what I do. It’s also the fact that I just plain love people and what better place to meet new people or to people watch than a place jam packed with people who love something that I do. Ok, airports are also awesome but none of you want to hear about my experiences at airports.

So…on to the con! This was my first time ever in Austin or in Texas. I’m going to leave out the drama of getting there or the insane way my gps couldn’t figure out the road system in that city. I’m not going to talk about Thursday or anything that happened that day...

KickStarter of the Week: Beginnings, Life of an Artist

So we decided that KickStarter was the way to go to fund the printing of Beginnings: Life of an Artist and fund the art studio with supplies, so any artist/student could use to complete their projects. We like to provide everyone a place they can call home. With your donations you will provide us with all the equipment and tools that the studio will need to make this possible. Our goal is to continue teaching  graduated students because if we don’t who will. Donations will also go toward the printing of this book and a percentage of this KickStarter will go to our local high school for helping with the layout of the book.

I usually do not review movies for the site but really felt the urge to after seeing this one. Occasionally Disney will release a movie that will reach me on a personal level.  For example, I watched The Emperor’s New Groove the day before my 18th birthday and that was the time frame of the movie, so it meant more to see it. And now I have Wreck it Ralph.

My life has been an up and down of turmoil and happy for a while now. On opening night, I had my kids and we were so excited to finally see this movie.  Fun fun. Then, the opening scene played out. We first see Ralph, as he is worried where his life is, as he is approaching 30, alone and hating his home...

Cards Against Humanity

Knowing the people I do, I’m surprised I didn’t know about this game before this weekend. That said, I was over with a bunch of people and someone suggested we play. Not having any idea what I was in for, I dug right in.

Let’s be clear here, this is not a game to play with your boss right before your performance review…or with your prospective mother-in-law…or really, anyone with a functioning sense of Political Correctness. While this game can be played ‘straight’, that is neither its intent, nor where the majority of its laughs come from.

Basically, each player gets ten white cards that contain random names, phrases, words or descriptions. Then each player takes a turn drawing a black card with an incomplete sentence on it...
