Jem and the Holograms: Infinite #3

Writer: Kelly Thompson
Art: Jen Hickman

Letters: Shawn Lee
Publisher: IDW Publishing

The Misfits reunite with Jerrica and The Holograms and while part of it is a happy reunion, there is a plan to set in motion. Jerrica lets Pizzazz know their plan to take back Synergy from Eric, freeing this world from the monetary hold that splits its citizens apart. Eric himself is planning on his last takeover of the citizens of Jemworld. He puts up a smokescreen to bury the story of the cost rise of the technology. Once he sees he can get away with it, he is ready to unveil his big plan and the other person who has been helping him behind the scenes. Along with Techrat and Emmett Bennett, The Holograms and Misfits get behind the stage to put in motion to take over Synergy with results they didn’t imagine.

Kelly Thompson has taken this series and has breathed a new original life into it. I know I have written about this before but Thompson’s writing and storyline for Jem and The Holograms and The Misfits is beyond fantastic. IDW should be promoting it a little more as Thompson writes diverse enough stories it can grab anyone’s interest. All of these characters are strong women, they help each other achieve teach others goals. Even Pizzazz, who truly dislikes The Holograms but is the first to encourage Jerrica to face her fear. Thompson makes these women relatable, warm and well-rounded, I cannot emphasize enough how much you need to read her stories.

Jen Hickman and Sarah Stern are the art and color team for the Jem and The Holograms part of this Infinite series. The art and the colors are great, Stern has to mix the bright palette with the darker palette because the Holograms and Misfits are together. The art by Hickman is good, the up close panels show the emotions the women are feeling when it is a panned out shot the emotions shown are almost in anime form. The art and color help to move the story along as it is a little dialogue heavy.

I am so stoked for the finale of this series, this is some of the best consistent writing I read in a comic in a long time. Definitely will pick this up in trade, but I wait with baited breath to finish the series. Take it from me, it will not disappoint. Solid 4 stars!
