James Bond: Moneypenny One-Shot

By writer JODY HOUSER (Mother Panic, Faith) and new artist JACOB EDGAR, a never-before-told mission starring MONEYPENNY, friend of JAMES BOND, former MI6 field agent and bodyguard of M! On a ‘routine’ protection mission, Moneypenny discovers a complicated assassination plot that bears a startling resemblance to a terrorist attack from her childhood. Can she call upon her secret agent skills to stop the plot…?

I will say first off I have already been enjoying Jody Houser’s writing on Mother Panic for DC.  Her terse, moody style has fit well for the dark and gloomy world of Batman and that style actually nicely fits well for the deadly world of James Bond.

The story easily weaves backstory with current events to give a nice fleshing out for Moneypenny beyond her older role of being just the secretary for Q, head of MI-6.

In this story we get a good feel for her motivation and her skills to where she is probably just as a capable as James Bond himself.

The art is also great to really keep up with this one shot.  At first it seems so clean and sharp but then you notice how subtle and strong the details are like character expressions it really helps tell the story where the “acting” of the characters helps move and even enhance the story where dialogue is used sparingly.

Over all I loved this one shot and it was enough to get my interest if there was an ongoing Monneypenny comic I’d be willing to check it out.
