Divergent Review

Saw this awhile back but thought it was time to post a review with the DVD/BLU RAY coming out soon. First off I want to say that I am not a fan of Shailene Woodley most noted for her role in Secret Life Of The American Teenager. To be honest, she won me over in this. Not to the point of rooting for her to take the Mary Jane role in THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 3, but enough to make me not freak out about watching the rest of this series.

This movie is about a world in the future where everyone has a spot they need to fit into to make it in society. If you don’t they call you a DIVERGENT and basically you have to hide or they will make your life crap or just end it. Tris (played by Woodley) ends up picking the worst group (Dauntless) to be in because it’s dangerous as hell and the try outs are like trying to get into the vampire group in THE LOST BOYS. Seriously, check it out. Unlike much of the Twilight series this movie doesn’t pack in a ton of mush, but we do get a bit of that.

We get some pretty cool action sequences especially the trials and the storyline is pretty solid. On top of all this we also get an all star cast including Theo James, Ashley Judd, Maggie Q, Kate Winslet, Amy Newbold mostly known for her casting duties in THE MAN OF STEEL. Kate Winslet is especially exceptional as your full blown messenger of evil and probably deserves some sort of award here.
Overall this film was surprisingly well done and I am pretty sure most of my friends dropped the ball on getting out to see this. That my friends is why we have the magic of BLU RAY and DVD.

I give this film a 5 out of 7. Rating Definition – A VISION WORTHY OF YOUR TIME. This is the movie that you missed along the way probably, but deserves better than that. After you go up to the movie poster and apologize you should definitely go in and see it or rent it or buy it. This movie probably had someone that shocked you at how well they did or at least one major epic fight scene that made you say….man, can’t believe I almost missed that one.
