Cyberforce: Artifacts #0

CYBERFORCE: ARTIFACTS #0 delves deep inside the secret world of CyberForce with three stories. “Someone is dealing in Protocol tech, and it’s up to APHRODITE IV to stop them dead.” “Velocity mourns the supposed death of her father, Stryker, the only way a super speedster can.” …and more!

Cyberforce is a nice surprise. I had no knowledge of this superhero team before reading this comic, but I’ve found they’re a step above the usual band of uninteresting superhumans.

There’s three stories here. The art is quite good in all three; I especially liked the linework in the third story. The writing is tight as well. The net effect is to create a sense of urgency throughout the comic, pulling the reader along, never stalling out.

The most intriguing part of this comic, of course, are the characters. What are the Aphrodites? What is the purpose of the fetching dot on their cheeks? How many were actually created? I’m a sucker for kickass females, and I’m interested in seeing what else these cyborgs get up to.

Nothing too cerebral here; the writing in #3 had a fight-scene cliche problem. None of this is a dealbreaker. Cyberforce: Artifacts is a solid read, and a good introduction to the Cyberforce universe.

Final Verdict: 3 out of 5.

Cyberforce: Artifacts #0 can be found at Image Comics
