Interview with Joamette Gil Power & Magic Anthology

This is a sort of a multi part question: what led you to make this book? Why make it as an anthology, and what led you to the theme of “magic” for the book?

I made Power & Magic for a lot of reasons. I decided to become a comics publisher to publish what I want to read and pay people what I, as a creator, want to be paid. “Fantasy comics about queer women of color” is, generally speaking, what I want to see more of in the comics scene, so it made sense for the very first thing I published to be purely that. As for the anthology format, that’s just a really smart way to go as a beginning publisher for a number of reasons, not least of which is building a working relationship with many creators at once.
