2000 AD PROG #2110

First off this is an anthology book, with 4 stories that take place in the distant or not so distant future. So for the sake of brevity in my review, I’m just going to give a brief synopsis and whether or not I liked the story and/or artwork. I’m not a huge fan of anthology books mainly because I always want more story they tend to be to brief for my taste and this book falls into that for me.

STORY 1:    JUDGE DREDD – TRIAL BY FIRE

STORY – RORY MCCONVILLE

ART – PJ HOLDEN

COLORS – JIM BOSWELL

LETTERS – ANNIE PARKHOUSE

SYNOPSIS: IN A PLACE CALLED MEGA-CITY ONE, IN 2140 AD. HOME TO OVER 100 MILLION CITIZENS. ON THE EAST COAST OF POST APOCALYPTIC NORTH AMERICA. CRIME IS RAMPANT AND ONLY THE JUDGES (EMPOWERED TO DISPENSE JUSTICE) CAN STOP TOTAL ANARCHY. THE TOUGHEST JUDGE OF THEM ALL IS JUDGE DREDD.

IN THIS STORY ONE CITIZEN FINDS OUT THAT VOLUNTEERING FOR SOME MEDICAL EXPERIMENTS MAY HAVE SOME UNDESIRED SIDE EFFECTS!

THE STORY: This story is brief, it’s basically one beat and one scene, that was well written but there wasn’t much to the story at all. I’m not familiar with much about Judge Dredd, but the story left a lot to be desired in my opinion.

THE ART: Out of all the art in the 4 stories this art is my favorite it is very cartoonish and bright and vibrant and fun

3 stars out of 5

STORY 2: BRINK – HIGH SOCIETY

STORY – DAN ABNETT

ART – INJ CULBARD

LETTERS – SIMON BOWLAND

SYNOPSIS:  EARTH IS INHABITABLE AND HUMANS HAVE EVACUATED EARTH AND LIVE IN COMMUNITIES IN DEEP SPACE

THE STORY: The story is impossible to follow if you haven’t read any of the  past stories all I know is that someone who was an investigator on one of the communities was involved with a case and her partner died and now she is undercover and someone has found her out, and that’s just from the synopsis in the front of the book.

THE ART: The art in this story doesn’t appeal to me at all and seems very flat, and boring.

1 out of 5 stars

STORY 3: KINGDOM – ALPHA AND OMEGA

STORY – DAN ABNETT

ART – RICHARD ELSON

COLORS – ABIGAIL BULMER

LETTERS – ELLIE DEVILLE

SYNOPSIS: HUMANS ARE ALL BUT DESTROYED AND EARTH IS RULED BY INSECTLIKE CREATURES. GENETICALLY ENGINEERED SOLDIERS LIKE GENE THE HACKMAN ARE MADE TO PROTECT HUMANITY

THE STORY: Its a simple story of one of the genetically engineered soldiers fighting and comes across from what I can gather is the next evolution of either his species or the enemy species its not clear without reading the past issues

THE ART: I really like the art in this one the art is well rendered and detailed

2 out of 5 stars

STORY 4: SINISTER DEXTER – THE SEA BENEATH THE CITY

STORY – DAN ABNETT

ART – STEVE YEOWELL

COLORS – JOHN CHARLES

LETTERS – ELLIE DEVILLE

SYNOPSIS: SOME ASSASSINS IN THE FUTURE CITY OF DOWNLODE CAUSE AN UPRISING IN AMONG WORKERS IN AN OPPRESSIVE KINGS LAIR AND UNLEASH A HUGE SNAKE DRAGON CREATURE

THE STORY: I like the writing of this story more then anything in this book everything flows well and is easily followed and the conversations between the workers is intriguing.

THE ART: The art in this story is cool I like the painterly style and the softness to it

3.5 out of 5 stars
